Passenger slips from moving train in Jhansi, RPF constable saves life

In a dramatic incident at Jhansi railway station, a passenger narrowly escaped death after slipping while trying to board a moving train. The quick response of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable prevented a potential tragedy.

How the incident unfolded

The incident occurred on July 10, 2026, when a passenger attempted to get onto a moving train. As he lost his footing, he slipped and fell onto the platform edge, with his body partially under the moving coach. Bystanders screamed in panic as the train continued to move.

An RPF constable, identified as Rajesh Kumar, who was on duty at the platform, noticed the commotion and rushed to the spot. Without any regard for his own safety, he grabbed the passenger's arms and pulled him to safety just seconds before the train could run over him.

Rescue caught on camera

The entire rescue was captured on the station's CCTV cameras and has since gone viral on social media. The footage shows the constable sprinting towards the falling passenger and dragging him away from the tracks as the train passes by.

According to railway officials, the passenger, later identified as 35-year-old Ravi Sharma, was trying to board a train to Delhi when he slipped. He sustained minor bruises but was otherwise unharmed. Speaking to reporters, Sharma expressed his gratitude to the constable, saying, 'I owe my life to him. He is a real hero.'

RPF constable hailed as hero

Senior Railway officials have commended Constable Rajesh Kumar for his bravery and presence of mind. The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Jhansi said, 'The constable's swift action saved a life. We will recommend him for a bravery award.'

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of boarding or alighting from moving trains. Railway authorities have urged passengers to avoid such risky behavior and to wait for the train to come to a complete stop.

Constable Kumar, in his statement, said, 'I just reacted instinctively. My training kicked in, and I did what I had to do. I am glad I could save him.'

The video of the rescue has been widely shared on social media, with many users praising the constable's courageous act. Some have called for better safety measures at stations to prevent such incidents.
