Jharkhand HC summons Dhanbad SSP for FIR non-registration

The Jharkhand High Court on Monday directed Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar to appear in person on April 28 for failing to register a First Information Report (FIR) at the cyber police station in Dhanbad. The directive came during the hearing of a criminal appeal, where the bench questioned the role of the police in not registering an FIR against Ravi Sao, an accused in the case.

Court Questions Police Inaction

The division bench comprising Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Sanjay Prasad expressed serious concern over the non-registration of the FIR. The victim's counsel, Shailesh Kumar Singh, informed the court that despite being released on bail, Sao continued his nefarious activities. The victim had sought to lodge an FIR before the cyber police in Dhanbad, but the police failed to act.

SSP Ordered to Appear

The bench questioned why the FIR was not registered and ordered SSP Prabhat Kumar to appear in person on the next date of hearing. The court's stern stance underscores the importance of police accountability in addressing cyber crimes and ensuring timely registration of complaints.
