Tragic Double Suicide Shocks Jhunjhunu Community
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Jhunjhunu district on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of a young couple within hours of each other. Police reported that a 25-year-old man, identified as Sachin Kantiwal, died by suicide by jumping in front of a train, shortly after learning about the death of his wife, 23-year-old Bharti Meghwal, who was found hanging at her in-laws' house earlier that day.
Details of the Disturbing Events
The couple, residents of Padampura, had been married for nearly 23 months and had recently celebrated the first birthday of their infant son just a week prior. According to authorities, Bharti was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan inside a room at her in-laws' home in the morning. Family members brought her down and immediately informed the police. Sultana police station officer Ravindra Singh arrived at the scene and initiated standard investigative procedures.
Sachin had traveled to Jaipur on Saturday morning. During his absence, a family dispute erupted at home, leading Bharti to lock herself in a room. Sachin's father, Subhash, stated that Bharti's family was notified, but by the time they arrived, she had already taken her own life. Upon receiving the devastating news, Sachin allegedly jumped in front of a train near Durjanpura village in Nawalgarh a few hours later.
Social Media Messages and Allegations
Before his death, Sachin posted emotional messages on Instagram, expressing his grief and intent. The posts included phrases such as "I too cannot live without you, I am coming," and "Miss you Bharti, cannot live, kept my promise. Miss you beta." These messages have been cited by police as part of their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suicides.
In a significant development, Bharti's family later filed a formal complaint at the Sultana police station against her in-laws. They alleged that Bharti was subjected to harassment and physical abuse over dowry demands, which they claim drove her to suicide. The complaint was lodged by Bharti's brother, prompting police to launch a thorough investigation into these serious allegations.
Family Tensions and Aftermath
Relatives and family members reported that the marriage had been strained by ongoing tensions. Sachin's father, Subhash, acknowledged that the couple frequently engaged in arguments, highlighting potential underlying issues in their relationship. Following post-mortem examinations, the bodies of both Sachin and Bharti were handed over to their respective families for last rites.
This tragic case has drawn attention to issues of mental health and domestic disputes in the region. Police are continuing their probe to determine the full sequence of events and any contributing factors, including the dowry harassment claims. The community remains in shock over the loss of the young couple, especially given their recent celebration of their son's milestone.
