Jammu & Kashmir LG Announces Lifetime Penalties Including Asset Seizure for Drug Smugglers
In a stern warning to drug smugglers operating in Jammu & Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has declared that stringent lifetime penalties will be enforced. These measures include the seizure of assets, cancellation of Aadhaar cards, and a permanent ban on accessing government benefits and subsidies.
Comprehensive Crackdown on Narcotics Trade
The announcement underscores the administration's zero-tolerance policy towards the drug menace, which has been a growing concern in the region. The LG emphasized that the fight against drugs is a top priority, and those involved in smuggling will face severe consequences designed to deter such activities effectively.
Key penalties outlined include:
- Asset Seizure: Properties and other assets acquired through drug smuggling will be confiscated by the authorities.
- Aadhaar Cancellation: The unique identification numbers of convicted smugglers will be revoked, impacting their access to various services.
- Lifetime Bans: Individuals found guilty will be permanently barred from receiving any government benefits, subsidies, or welfare schemes.
- Legal Prosecution: Enhanced legal actions will be taken to ensure swift justice and maximum penalties under the law.
Administration's Commitment to a Drug-Free Society
Lieutenant Governor Sinha highlighted that these measures are part of a broader strategy to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking in Jammu & Kashmir. The administration is collaborating with law enforcement agencies, community leaders, and educational institutions to raise awareness and prevent drug-related crimes.
The LG stated, "We are determined to protect our youth and society from the scourge of drugs. Those who engage in smuggling will not only face legal repercussions but also lifelong restrictions that will serve as a deterrent to others."
This crackdown aims to address the root causes of drug trafficking while ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable through punitive actions that extend beyond traditional legal penalties.
