Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Launches Intensive 100-Day Anti-Drug Campaign
In a decisive move to combat the escalating drug crisis, Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha officially inaugurated the "Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan" on Saturday. This comprehensive 100-day campaign is specifically designed to eradicate the drug menace from the Union Territory by aggressively targeting the supply chain of contraband substances, particularly those originating from Pakistan, and ensuring severe, exemplary punishment for narcotics traffickers.
Administration's Firm Commitment to Protecting Youth
Speaking at the launch event, which commenced with a symbolic foot march from the historic Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu, Lieutenant Governor Sinha emphasized the administration's unwavering dedication to confronting this pervasive social evil. "The administration is fully committed to effectively tackling this destructive social issue and safeguarding the future of our youth across the entire Union Territory," Sinha declared, setting a determined tone for the ambitious initiative.
Addressing Cross-Border Smuggling and National Security Threats
The Lieutenant Governor did not mince words when addressing the external dimension of the problem. He pointedly accused Pakistan of utilizing cross-border smuggling operations as a tool to poison Indian communities and destabilize the nation's future. "Our neighbor, Pakistan, is actively employing cross-border smuggling tactics to contaminate our society and undermine the very foundation of our nation's progress. Every officer involved in this campaign has one primary obligation: this illicit activity must be stopped immediately and completely," Sinha stated with resolve.
He further announced that the full legal and enforcement machinery of the state is now being mobilized against drug smugglers, with a clear mandate to dismantle their operational networks without any delay or leniency.
Stringent New Standard Operating Procedure for Traffickers
Outlining the rigorous measures to be implemented, Sinha detailed a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that will impose severe consequences on convicted drug traffickers. The punitive actions include:
- Revocation of passports, driving licenses, Aadhaar numbers, and arms licenses.
- Attachment of personal assets and freezing of bank accounts.
- Issuance of lookout circulars to prevent escape from legal proceedings.
"Punishment will be swift and unforgiving. This crackdown is designed to resonate through generations, serving as a powerful deterrent," the Lieutenant Governor asserted, underscoring the campaign's long-term preventive goals.
Six-Phase Strategic Implementation Over Three Months
Sinha explained that the next three months are critically important for the campaign's success. The 100-day "Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan" will advance through six clearly defined and strategic phases:
- Intensive Awareness Drives: Widespread educational campaigns to inform the public about the dangers of drug abuse.
- Youth-Focused Events: Engaging programs specifically tailored for young people to promote healthy lifestyles.
- Community Engagement: Involving local communities and leaders in prevention efforts.
- Strict Enforcement: Aggressive action by law enforcement agencies against suppliers and peddlers.
- Rehabilitation: Providing support and treatment facilities for individuals struggling with addiction.
- Evaluation: Continuous assessment and review of the campaign's impact and effectiveness.
This multi-faceted approach aims to create a sustainable, drug-free environment in Jammu & Kashmir by addressing both the supply and demand sides of the issue through coordinated legal, social, and rehabilitative efforts.
