A man accused in a murder case in Jammu and Kashmir has been arrested in Himachal Pradesh, police said on Friday. The accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar, was wanted in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old man in Jammu's Domana area earlier this month.
Arrest Details
Rajesh Kumar was arrested from a hideout in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday evening. A joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Himachal Pradesh Police conducted the operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
According to police officials, the accused had been on the run since the incident and had changed his location multiple times to evade arrest. He was finally traced to a rented accommodation in Mandi.
Case Background
The murder took place on March 2, when the victim, identified as Suresh Sharma, was attacked with sharp weapons following a dispute. The accused and the victim were known to each other, and the incident was the result of an old enmity.
Police had registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code at Domana police station.
Legal Proceedings
The accused has been brought to Jammu on a transit remand and will be produced before a local court. Further investigations are underway to ascertain if the accused had any accomplices in the crime.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Jammu) said that the arrest was a significant breakthrough and that the police are committed to ensuring justice for the victim's family.
