In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended two individuals suspected of having links with terrorist outfits and confiscated a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and cash in the Ganderbal district. The late-evening raid underscores the ongoing security efforts in the region to thwart unlawful activities.
Operation Details and Major Seizure
The operation was executed by a team from the Ganderbal Police Station with crucial support from the Special Operations Group (SOG). Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the security personnel set up a routine checkpoint near the Gundrehman Bridge. During this naka checking, they intercepted a load carrier with the registration number JK15B-7309.
A thorough search of the vehicle yielded alarming results. The police recovered a Chinese pistol along with its magazine, four rounds of ammunition, and two hand grenades. More strikingly, the search also led to the discovery of a large sum of cash, amounting to Rs 8,40,500. Officials stated that this seizure points towards potential terror-linked activities and an attempt to finance and support unlawful operations in the area.
Identities of the Accused and Legal Action
The two individuals taken into custody have been identified as Ghulam Nabi Mir, a resident of Hajin in Bandipora district, and Shabnum Nazir, daughter of Nazir Ahmad Ganie, who hails from Shalabugh in Ganderbal district. Following their arrest, the Ganderbal Police have formally registered a case under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act.
Investigations are currently in progress to trace the origin of the seized items, ascertain the precise intent behind their transportation, and uncover any broader network or connections. The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the district and have appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing any relevant information concerning criminal or anti-national activities.

In a related but separate development, the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police reported another successful operation on December 7. This forest search led to the recovery of significant weaponry, including one SLR rifle, two magazines, and 22 live rounds. This operation highlights the continued vigilance of security forces across different regions of Jammu and Kashmir to unearth and neutralize hidden threats.
