J&K Police Warns Against Viral 2022 Bhaderwah Video

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued a public advisory cautioning against a viral video from Bhaderwah, originally recorded in 2022, which is being circulated on social media platforms with distorted and misleading narratives. The police warned that such sharing could disturb communal harmony and stated that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in spreading the misinformation.

Police Advisory Details

In a statement released on July 6, 2026, the Jammu and Kashmir Police clarified that the video in question is an old clip from 2022 and is being shared with false context to create unrest. The advisory emphasized that the original incident had been resolved peacefully at the time and that the current circulation is an attempt to mislead the public and provoke communal tension.

“The video is being shared with misleading and distorted narratives that could disturb communal harmony. We urge citizens not to share or forward such content and to verify facts before believing any such claims,” the police advisory read.

Legal Consequences for Misinformation

The police have warned that those found sharing the video with malicious intent or adding provocative comments will face legal action under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. “Strict action will be taken against those who attempt to disturb public peace and order,” the advisory added.

Authorities have also requested the public to report any such content to the nearest police station or through the cyber crime helpline. The police are monitoring social media platforms to identify and take action against the originators and spreaders of the fake narrative.

Background of the Video

The 2022 Bhaderwah video originally depicted a local dispute that was amicably resolved by community elders and police intervention. No communal angle was involved at the time, according to official records. However, recent shares have added false claims to inflame passions.

“We have traced the initial shares and are investigating the chain of forwards. Those intentionally spreading falsehoods will not be spared,” a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity.

Public Appeal for Peace

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have appealed to all residents to maintain peace and not fall prey to such divisive tactics. They reiterated that the administration is committed to ensuring communal harmony and public safety.

“We request everyone to be vigilant and not to share unverified content. Let us work together to keep our society peaceful,” the advisory concluded.
