Journalist Arrested in Ahmedabad Extortion Case Involving Village Woman

Ahmedabad: In a disturbing case of alleged extortion, a journalist has been arrested and three others have been named as accused after a woman from a village near Kalol in Gandhinagar district filed a complaint. The woman claims she was repeatedly threatened and extorted for money over a video recorded at her hut.

Details of the Alleged Extortion

According to the complaint, the incident began on December 10, 2025, when three men visited the woman's hut. They identified themselves as journalists and proceeded to record a video featuring liquor pouches. The woman alleges that they then warned her, "we will make this video viral," and forcibly took Rs 40,000 from her. They further instructed her to pay Rs 40,000 every month on the 10th.

The situation escalated two days later when two of the initial accused returned with two additional men, claiming they were also journalists. On this occasion, they allegedly took Rs 25,000 from the woman. The very next day, one of the accused reportedly returned alone and extracted another Rs 15,000.
