Tragic Discovery in Aluva: Junior Artist Found Dead in Lodge Room
A 27-year-old woman, identified as Jomol Varghese from Kumily in Idukki, was found dead hanging inside a lodge room in Aluva on Monday morning. The deceased was associated with the film industry as a junior artist, according to statements from rural police officials.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Discovery
Police revealed that Jomol had previously stayed at the same lodge located near Aluva district hospital. She had visited the hospital earlier due to a sprained ankle before checking into the lodge. During her stay, she informed lodge staff that she was experiencing financial difficulties and provided a friend's contact information for payment arrangements.
The friend visited the lodge on Sunday night and knocked on her door but left when there was no response, assuming she was asleep. Concern grew on Monday morning when the woman failed to answer repeated phone calls. The friend alerted lodge staff, who subsequently discovered her body hanging after peering through a window.
Police Investigation Underway
"Prima facie evidence suggests this was a suicide, but we have launched a detailed investigation to determine all circumstances," stated a police officer involved in the case. "We are awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the exact cause of death and will be recording statements from family members to understand what may have led to this tragic outcome."
Police noted that the woman was reportedly not particularly close with her relatives, which may factor into their investigation. Aluva East police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) for unnatural death and have transferred the body to Government Medical College Hospital in Ernakulam following standard inquest procedures.
Second Unnatural Death Discovered Nearby
In a separate but geographically proximate incident, another body was discovered in a marshy land at Edayappuram in Aluva on Monday morning. The deceased was found by the owner of a nearby property. Police investigation at this scene revealed a piece of cloth hanging from a nearby tree, suggesting possible suicide.
Officers also noted marks on the neck of the deceased that appeared consistent with self-inflicted harm. While a rusted knife was recovered from the vicinity, police clarified that no visible injuries were found on the body and it remains uncertain whether the weapon was connected to the death.
"An autopsy will provide more definitive information about the cause of death in this case as well," explained a police spokesperson. "We are investigating all possible angles and will pursue a thorough examination of both incidents."
