The Kalyan taluka police have made a significant arrest in connection with the devastating Rayta bridge accident on National Highway 61, which resulted in the tragic loss of 11 lives. Driver Apprehended and Sent to Judicial Custody
The accused, identified as Kamlesh Yadav, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended from Kalyan on Tuesday. He was produced before the Kalyan court, which subsequently sent him to judicial custody. Police have registered a formal case against Yadav and the deceased taxi driver under serious charges, including rash and negligent driving as well as culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The fatal accident occurred on Monday when an overcrowded six-seater taxi, carrying 11 passengers including the driver Prashant Chendane, collided head-on with the cement mixer on the partially opened Rayta bridge. According to police reports, the taxi was routinely used to ferry commuters between Kalyan and Murbad, and on this occasion, it was dangerously overloaded beyond its capacity.

Murbad DSP Anil Lad stated that preliminary findings suggest negligence on the part of both drivers involved in the accident.
