Kanpur Advocates Raise Court Infrastructure Issues with District Judge
Kanpur Advocates Meet District Judge Over Court Issues

A delegation of advocates led by Ravindra Sharma, convener of the Adhivakta Kalyan Sangharsh Samiti, met with District Judge Anmol Pal of Kanpur Nagar on Wednesday to apprise him of the various problems plaguing the court premises and the functioning of the courts.

Issues Raised by the Delegation

Sharma informed the district judge that ideally, courts should be arranged sequentially with their administrative offices situated behind them. However, in the Nyaya Bhawan (Justice Building), offices are located across the road or on different floors. Frequent changes in the jurisdiction of courts are causing severe difficulties for both advocates and litigants. Case files are even missing, hearings are not taking place on time, and orders are not being issued within the stipulated time frame.

Infrastructure Deficiencies

Courtrooms lack adequate seating arrangements for lawyers, and in many places, chairs are broken and dilapidated. Due to the absence of proper seating facilities for litigants, they are often compelled to remain standing. The elevators frequently break down, and the situation within the Copying Department is extremely dire, to the extent that lawyers are forced to personally follow up on their requests for copies.

The courtrooms within the old Kanpur Dehat court complex are small, yet they are furnished with oversized tables, resulting in a significant shortage of space. Furthermore, the staircases in several areas are broken, posing a risk of falls. Sharma emphasized that all these issues should be resolved expeditiously.

Immediate Action Taken

Sharma stated that upon receiving the report, the district judge immediately forwarded it to the court manager and the Nazir, issuing orders to repair the damaged staircase on the same day. The judge also provided an assurance that other issues would be resolved expeditiously.
