Two cyclists killed in Kanpur SUV accident, driver hospitalized

Two cyclists lost their lives early Sunday morning in Kanpur. An SUV struck them in the Shujatganj area. The driver of the vehicle also sustained injuries in the crash.

Details of the tragic incident

The accident occurred when Imtiyaz, a resident of Shyamnagar, was driving his SUV towards Shujatganj. He lost control of the vehicle and hit cyclists Prashant Jha and Shailesh. Police arrived at the scene and transported all three individuals to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital.

Prashant and Shailesh succumbed to their injuries during treatment at the hospital. Imtiyaz is currently undergoing medical care for his injuries at the same facility.

Police investigation and statements

Station in-charge Jitendra Pratap Singh Chauhan provided details about the accident. He confirmed that an e-rickshaw and two other vehicles sustained damage in the incident. Police will file an FIR based on the complaint received and take appropriate legal action.

"The SUV driver might have been under the influence of alcohol. We are examining all the aspects," Chauhan stated. "Some people suggest that the accident might have been caused by fog."
