Kanpur Father Allegedly Murders 11-Year-Old Twin Daughters in Pre-Dawn Tragedy
In a shocking incident in Kanpur, a 48-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 11-year-old twin daughters. The crime occurred in the Kidwai Nagar area early on Sunday, with police reporting that the father, Shashi Ranjan Mishra, a pharmaceutical businessman, confessed to the killings after calling authorities himself.
Details of the Horrific Crime Scene
According to police reports, Mishra called Dial-112 around 4:30 am to report the incident, stating, "I have killed my children. Please come." When officers arrived at the locked residence, his wife, Reshma Kshetri, 40, opened the door after hearing the bell. She rushed to the room upon learning of the call and discovered her daughters lying in a pool of blood on the floor, with Mishra seated beside them.
The bodies of the twins, both Class 5 students, were found with signs of strangulation and throat slitting. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal confirmed that a knife was seized from the scene, and forensic teams have inspected the area, collecting evidence with the assistance of a sniffer dog unit. The deceased have been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigation Reveals Premeditated Plan and Motives
During questioning, Mishra confessed to hatching a plan to kill his daughters and then commit suicide. He reportedly purchased a chopper from the Kakadeo area a day prior to the murder. On the night of the crime, he mixed sleeping pills into their food, and once they were unconscious, he strangled both girls before slitting their throats. However, after carrying out the killings, he panicked and could not proceed with his own suicide.
Police have cited mental stress, depression, and financial problems as suspected reasons behind the murder. DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary noted that an FIR was registered against Mishra at the Naubasta police station based on a complaint from his wife. Initial investigations also revealed that Mishra had installed CCTV cameras from the building entrance to the bedroom, indicating suspicions about his wife.
Family Dynamics and Ongoing Police Probe
At the time of the incident, the couple's 6-year-old son was asleep with his mother in another room, unaware of the tragedy. Police are examining how Reshma Kshetri, who was present in the house, remained unaware of the crime as it unfolded. The sequence of events inside the residence is under scrutiny to piece together the full timeline.
Mishra has been taken into custody for further questioning, with authorities working to corroborate his confession and gather additional evidence. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting issues of mental health and domestic violence.
As the investigation continues, police are focusing on forensic findings and witness statements to build a strong case. The tragic loss of the young twins has underscored the need for greater awareness and support for mental health crises in families.
