Kanpur Gang Rape Case: Accused Cop Still At Large, Family Faces Threats
Sub-inspector Amit Maurya continues to evade arrest in the Sachendi gang rape case. He has remained absconding for eight days now. The survivor's family reports mounting pressure to withdraw the case.
WhatsApp Threats Target Survivor's Brother
On Monday, the survivor's brother received a threatening WhatsApp call from an unknown number. The caller pressured him to withdraw the case. The caller claimed Sub-inspector Amit Maurya was an honest person.
A message also arrived from a profile named Chhotu Kushwaha. It warned the family not to play with the sub-inspector's job. "He is not wrong. We know him, he is very decent," the message stated.
The message falsely claimed the sub-inspector had already secured bail. It threatened that no one would help the victim's family for their entire lifetime. The threat promised severe consequences if the family did not comply. It said their life would become so miserable they would not even have tears left to cry.
Police Action and Arrest
The Kanpur Commissionerate issued a press note on its official X handle. It acknowledged the case from the Sachendi police station area. The note confirmed the victim's brother received a threatening WhatsApp call from an unknown person.
Police registered a case at the Sachendi police station against the caller. They are taking legal action as per established rules.
Authorities identified and arrested the caller. He is Amit Trivedi, son of Divakar Lal Trivedi. Trivedi is a 30-year-old resident of Parsendi, under Talgaon police station in Sitapur district.
Police took Trivedi into custody. They are conducting necessary interrogation. Legal proceedings against him are now underway.
Ongoing Investigation and Family's Plight
The main accused, Sub-inspector Amit Maurya, remains at large. His prolonged absconding highlights challenges in the investigation. The survivor's family endures dual pressures from the crime and subsequent threats.
This case underscores serious concerns about police misconduct and witness intimidation in Uttar Pradesh. The arrest of Amit Trivedi marks a step, but the search for the primary accused continues.
