Kanpur House Collapse Injures Seven in Beconganj Area
A dangerous structural failure occurred in Kanpur on Monday night when an old, dilapidated house collapsed in the densely populated Beconganj neighborhood. The incident resulted in injuries to seven individuals who were standing at a tea shop and a kiosk located on the ground floor of the building.
Emergency Response and Rescue Operation
Local residents immediately alerted the Bajriya police station about the collapse. A coordinated rescue effort was launched involving police personnel from Bajriya, Chamanganj, Beconganj, and Sisamau police stations. Working diligently through the night, rescue teams managed to extract all seven people trapped beneath the heavy debris.
The injured victims were promptly transported to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital and Ursula Hospital for medical treatment. Hospital authorities confirmed that all seven individuals are now out of danger and receiving appropriate care for their injuries.
Sequence of Events Leading to Collapse
The incident unfolded around 10 PM on Monday when a crowd had gathered at the tea shop situated beneath the unstable structure. Witnesses reported that debris initially began falling from one side of the dilapidated house, causing panic and prompting people to flee the area.
Shortly after the initial debris fall, the entire portion of the aged building came crashing down, trapping several people who couldn't escape in time. The collapse created a dangerous scene with rubble covering the tea shop area and surrounding kiosk.
Victims and Property Damage
Among those injured in the collapse were tenant Manzoor, tea hotel worker Saleem, Tariq, Riyaz Ahmad, and Dilshad, along with two other individuals who were standing at the shop when the structure gave way. In addition to the human injuries, property damage occurred as Dilshad's brother Aftab's motorcycle was crushed under the falling debris.
Police Management and Investigation
Police quickly established barricades around the collapse site and used loudspeakers to move curious onlookers to a safe distance. Fire brigade personnel joined the police in the rescue operation, helping to carefully remove debris and transport the injured to medical facilities.
The property investigation revealed that the collapsed house near Roopam Chauraha had been purchased approximately 20 years ago by Ayub, also known as Raju, a goldsmith and resident of Beconganj. The current resident of the house is Manzoor, who operates a paan masala vending business.
Official Response and Inspection
Senior police officials, including DCP Central Atul Kumar Srivastava and ADCP Archana Singh, conducted a thorough inspection of the site after receiving information about the incident. Officials confirmed that the rescue operation was executed efficiently, with all victims being extracted from the debris and hospitalized in a timely manner.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of aging structures in densely populated urban areas and the importance of regular building inspections to prevent such dangerous collapses.
