Kanpur House Fire: Woman Suffers Burns in Short Circuit Incident
A significant fire broke out in a residential house located in the Kalyanpur area of Kanpur on Wednesday evening, resulting in injuries to a woman, according to police reports. The incident, which caused widespread panic, was attributed to an electrical short circuit that ignited the blaze around 5 pm.
Details of the Fire and Immediate Response
The fire originated near the electricity meter due to a short circuit between two wires, rapidly spreading and engulfing the entire structure. The house belongs to Amit Verma, a private sector employee residing on Purana Shivli Road under the jurisdiction of the Kalyanpur police station. At the time of the incident, his family members—mother Maya Verma, wife Reena Verma, and son Ishu—were present at home, as Amit had left for work earlier in the day.
Upon noticing the fire, Reena Verma attempted to extinguish it herself but sustained burns in the process. Her screams alerted neighbors, who promptly contacted the police emergency number 112. In response, two fire brigade vehicles and police personnel arrived at the scene. After nearly an hour of intense efforts, they successfully brought the fire under control.
Medical Treatment and Police Investigation
The injured woman, Reena Verma, was initially taken to Barra Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical attention. From there, doctors referred her to Hallet Hospital for further treatment. Santosh Kumar Singh, the in-charge of Kalyanpur police station, stated that preliminary investigations indicate the fire was caused by a short circuit. He confirmed that Reena Verma suffered burns while trying to combat the flames and is currently receiving treatment at Hallet Hospital, with her condition reported as stable.
This incident highlights the dangers of electrical faults in residential areas and underscores the importance of timely emergency responses. Authorities continue to monitor the situation to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
