Kanpur: A youth accused of befriending and eloping with a minor girl and raping her was arrested, police said on Monday. According to reports, Deepanshu Solanki alias Kalu (24) befriended the girl on Instagram and eloped with her on May 10. He lodged her at different locations and raped her. The girl's medical examination was conducted and her statement was recorded. After interrogation, the accused was produced before court and sent to jail.
The minor girl's mother, a resident of Kalyanpur police station area, said she worked at a factory in Dada Nagar. She is a native of Rajasthan. She said her 17-year-old daughter had been living with her maternal aunt in Kalyanpur for about a year.
Police said the accused, a neighbour, sent a friend request to the girl on Instagram and began communicating with her. He manipulated and influenced her to elope with him, following which, the family filed a missing person report. Police reviewed footage from CCTV cameras in the area and saw the minor getting into a car. Based on the vehicle's registration number, police arrested the accused from Panki Road Chowki area of Kalyanpur on Monday.
During interrogation, the minor stated that after befriending her on Instagram, Kalu eloped with her on May 10 and kept her at different locations where he raped her, and assaulted her whenever she spoke of contacting her family or returning home. The minor's mother filed a missing person report at Kalyanpur police station on May 14. Police found both of them within Kalyanpur area. After the minor's medical examination and statement were recorded, she was handed over to her family. Meanwhile, the accused was produced before the court and sent to jail.
Kalyanpur police station in charge Santosh Kumar Singh said based on complaint filed by the girl's family, police registered a missing person report. They arrested the accused with the help of surveillance and rescued the minor. Based on medical examination and statement, additional charges including of rape and under POCSO Act sections were added against the accused before he was sent to jail.
