Kanpur Youth Dies by Suicide Following Heated Argument with Girlfriend
A tragic incident unfolded in Kanpur on Saturday, where a 22-year-old man, identified as Vishal Verma, died by suicide after a heated argument with his girlfriend over the phone. The event occurred in the Bingawan area under the jurisdiction of the Sen Paschimpara police station, according to official police statements.
Details of the Incident and Family Account
Family members informed the police that prior to his death, Vishal uploaded an obscene video of his girlfriend on Instagram and subsequently deleted it. He also smashed his mobile phone in a fit of rage. Police and a forensic team promptly conducted an investigation at the scene and sent the body for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Vishal's father, Raju Paswan, who is a farmer, provided a detailed account of the day's events. He stated that on Saturday, he had gone to fetch medicine for his wife, Rooprani. His younger son, Gopi, was out for work, while his daughters—Roshni, Pooja, and Arushi—had gone to the fields, leaving Vishal alone at home.
When Arushi returned home late in the evening, she discovered Vishal's body hanging from the 'dhanni' (roof beam). A broken mobile phone was found lying on the ground nearby, adding to the distressing scene.
Background of the Relationship and Police Response
According to family members, Vishal was involved in a love affair with a girl from a neighboring village. The family had approached the girl's family with a marriage proposal, but it was refused, leading to ongoing tensions. The father recounted that on Saturday, a particularly heated argument erupted between Vishal and the girl during a phone call, after which Vishal smashed his phone and proceeded to take his own life.
Sen Paschimpara police station in-charge Pradeep Singh confirmed that the youth committed suicide following a dispute with his girlfriend. He emphasized, "If the family members file a written complaint, investigation and action will be taken." The police are awaiting formal documentation to proceed with further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
