Kanpur Man Surrenders After Allegedly Strangling Wife Over Character Dispute
A shocking incident unfolded in Kanpur on Saturday morning. A young man walked into the Maharajpur police station and surrendered himself. He confessed to strangling his wife to death. The suspect gave a disturbing reason for his actions.
Love Marriage Turns Tragic
The suspect identified himself as Sachin Singh. He is twenty-two years old. Sachin told the police he killed his wife because she "lacked good character." He mentioned they had a love marriage. Their families objected to the union.
Sachin Singh married Shweta Singh last August. Shweta was nineteen years old. Both came from Mohanpur village in Fatehpur district. After marriage, Sachin worked briefly in a Surat factory. He returned after one month. The couple then lived in a rented room above a clinic in Kanpur's Ruma area.
A Fatal Night and a Surrender
Sachin provided a detailed account to the police. He said he went to Chaudagra for work on January 13th. He returned to his rented room very late on the night of January 16th. What he found inside triggered the tragedy.
Sachin claimed he entered the room and saw his wife on the bed with two young men. A heated argument erupted immediately. He alleged that Shweta and the two men attacked him. Sachin then called the police emergency number Dial 112.
Officers arrived at the scene. They took Shweta and the two men to a police outpost. Another young man from a nearby room was also taken. Sachin told police that Shweta threatened him after this. She said the men would be released in the morning and warned, "now you won't survive."
This threat, he claimed, pushed him over the edge. Around 3 AM on Saturday, Sachin strangled his wife. A few hours later, he went to the Maharajpur police station and surrendered.
Police Investigation Underway
Police officers detained Sachin Singh for questioning. He worked as a driver for a rented auto. During interrogation, he revealed more details. The two young men involved were students at a nearby engineering college.
Sachin also expressed long-standing suspicions about his wife. He told police that money was transferred to Shweta's account multiple times from the students' phones. When he questioned her, she said the money came from her grandmother. He did not believe her explanation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Satyajit Gupta addressed the media. "We received information about the murder on Saturday morning," he said. "The young man is in custody and being interrogated. The girl's family has been informed. The police will act according to the complaint. The body is being sent for post-mortem."
