Kanpur Police Cracks Down on Ganja Smuggling Network with High-Tech Drone Operation
In a significant crackdown on illegal drug activities, the Kanpur police executed a meticulously planned operation on Wednesday night, targeting a ganja smuggling network in Sachendi town. The raid, which leveraged advanced drone technology, resulted in the arrest of one man and seven women, marking a major victory in the fight against narcotics trafficking in the region.
Tech-Driven Raid Led by Senior Officers
The operation was spearheaded by ADCP (Crime) Sumit Ramteke and trainee IPS officer Sumedh Milind Jadhav, who mobilized over six dozen police personnel for the mission. Equipped with drone cameras, the team surrounded the entire area, ensuring a tight cordon to prevent escapes. This innovative use of surveillance technology allowed for real-time monitoring and enhanced operational efficiency during the intense raid.
Seizures and Fleeing Accused
During the operation, police recovered more than 3 kilograms of ganja and approximately Rs 92,000 in cash from the scene. Despite the thorough efforts, some accused individuals managed to flee the area. Authorities are now actively identifying these fugitives based on footage captured by the drones, highlighting the critical role of technology in modern law enforcement.
Illegal Trade Operated Near Police Station
Investigations revealed that the ganja smuggling operation was being conducted alarmingly close to the Sachendi police station, raising concerns about local security oversight. The accused were reportedly selling ganja from paan masala stalls, with each packet weighing around 3 grams and priced at Rs 50. This method of distribution allowed for discreet sales, exploiting everyday businesses for illicit activities.
Arrests and Criminal History Probe
Those arrested in the raid include Indrapal Gihar, Maya Gihar, Karishma Gihar, Deepa, and four other women. Police are currently investigating their criminal histories to uncover any prior involvement in similar illegal trades. Initial interrogations have indicated that the ganja supply chain extended beyond Sachendi, with sources traced to Bidhnu, Kanjdan Purwa, and even Madhya Pradesh.

Authorities have confirmed that they are intensifying efforts to locate the absconding accused and dismantle the broader supply network linked to this smuggling ring.
