Kanpur Police Hosts 100 Students to Demystify Cops & Fight Cyber Crime
Kanpur Police Demystifies Work for 100 Students

In a significant move to bridge the gap between the police force and the younger generation, the Kanpur Police organized a special dialogue and awareness session at the historic Kotwali police station. The event, held on Friday, saw the enthusiastic participation of around 100 schoolchildren from various institutions across the city.

Building Bridges and Busting Myths

Presided over by Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal, the core aim of the session was to reduce the inherent fear of police among students and instead foster a relationship built on trust and cooperation. Recognizing the digital threats faced by youth, a major focus was also placed on spreading crucial awareness about the alarming rise in cyber crimes.

Students from BNSD Balika Inter College, Christ Church College, and GNK School took part in this interactive program. The initiative was designed to explain the complex functioning of the police department in a simple, engaging, and practical manner, moving beyond textbook definitions.

A Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Kotwali Police Station

As a highlight of the day, the children were given a comprehensive guided tour of the Kotwali police station. This wasn't a superficial walk-through; officers meticulously explained the role of each critical unit. The students visited and were briefed about:

  • The General Diary (GD) office, where daily complaints are logged.
  • The hi-tech CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems) room.
  • The malkhana (evidence storage room).
  • The police lock-up.
  • The dedicated cyber helpdesk, a key unit in today's digital age.
  • The Mission Shakti Centre, dedicated to women's safety.
  • The Station House Officer's (SHO) office, the nerve center of the station.

Learning the Ropes: From FIR to Modern Gadgets

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Kotwali took charge of explaining the fundamental police working system. He provided clear insights into the crime register, demystified the process of what an FIR (First Information Report) is and how it is registered, and clarified the critical legal difference between an accused and a convicted criminal.

At the Mission Shakti Centre, a woman sub-inspector empowered the students with knowledge about the 1090 Women Power Helpline and other essential assistance services available for women and girls. The session then took an exciting turn with a demonstration of modern police equipment. Students saw firsthand tools like tear gas guns, bulletproof jackets, and helmets. Officers also explained the importance of wireless communication systems and the integrated CCTNS network in modern policing.

This innovative outreach program by the Kanpur Police is expected to have a lasting positive impact. By opening their doors and explaining their work, the police have taken a concrete step towards building a more cooperative and informed citizenry, starting with the youth who are most vulnerable to cyber threats yet are also the future of the nation.
