Kanpur Police Holds Intensive Riot Control Drill Ahead of Major Festivals
In a proactive move to ensure public safety, the Kanpur police conducted a detailed riot drill exercise on Sunday at the Reserve Police Line. The training was spearheaded by DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Shrivastava, with the primary objective of maintaining peace, communal harmony, and effective law and order management during the upcoming festive season, which includes Holika Dahan, Holi, and Eid celebrations.
Comprehensive Training for Emergency Response
The exercise was meticulously designed to enhance the quick response capabilities of police personnel in handling potential emergency situations. Officers and staff from all police stations within the Central Zone participated actively, following the established Standard Operating Procedures for riot control. This initiative underscores the police department's commitment to preemptive security measures.
During the drill, a phased demonstration was executed, covering essential aspects such as:
- Crowd control techniques to manage large gatherings safely.
- Area cordoning procedures to isolate and secure volatile zones.
- Identification of miscreants and legal arrest processes to ensure accountability.
- Safe usage of riot-control equipment, including tear gas, rubber bullets, body protectors, helmets, shields, and other protective gear.
Emphasis on Coordination and Communication
Training sessions also focused on maintaining seamless coordination through the wireless communication system. Personnel were drilled on sharing information rapidly and ensuring prompt compliance with directives from senior officers. This aspect is crucial for efficient command and control during critical incidents.
Officials issued specific guidelines for heightened vigilance in sensitive and mixed-population areas. They stressed the importance of preserving communal harmony throughout the festive period. All Station House Officers (SHOs) were directed to strengthen coordination with local peace committees in their respective jurisdictions and ensure regular patrolling and flag marches to deter any untoward incidents.
Top Priority: Peace During Festivals
DCP Atul Kumar Shrivastava emphasized that maintaining peace and law and order during the festivals is the top priority for the police force. He highlighted that such drills are vital for preparedness and instilling confidence among the public. The exercise not only refreshes the skills of the personnel but also demonstrates the police's readiness to handle any challenges that may arise.
This proactive approach by the Kanpur police aims to create a secure environment, allowing residents to celebrate the festivals with joy and without fear. The department's efforts are aligned with broader goals of fostering community trust and ensuring public safety through rigorous training and strategic planning.
