Kanpur Municipal Team Attacked During Dog Capture Operation in Panki
A team from the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) was violently assaulted by local residents while conducting a dog capture operation in the Gangaganj Part 2 area of Panki late on Wednesday night. The attack resulted in injuries to three municipal employees, who were subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Complaint Triggers Operation
The incident was initiated by a formal complaint filed on the IGRS portal by a resident of Gangaganj. The complaint highlighted that a family in the locality was keeping four to five country-breed dogs, which were reportedly attacking vehicle riders and biting people frequently. Acting on this complaint, the municipal team, led by Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. R K Niranjan, arrived in the area on Wednesday night to capture the problematic dogs.
Dr. Niranjan explained, "While our team was in the process of catching the dogs, a family emerged from their residence and began behaving aggressively towards our employees. Despite our staff identifying themselves as municipal corporation officials, the accused individuals launched a physical assault."
Violent Assault Captured on Video
The assailants attacked the KMC employees with kicks, punches, and even a belt, causing significant injuries. Eyewitnesses at the scene recorded the entire incident on their mobile phones, and the video quickly went viral across various social media platforms, drawing widespread attention to the event.
Upon receiving an alert, a UP 112 emergency response team arrived at the spot to assess the situation and provide assistance. The injured employees were promptly taken to a nearby hospital, where they received necessary medical care.
Official Response and Investigation
Dr. Niranjan confirmed that a written complaint would be formally filed against the accused individuals to ensure legal action is taken. Meanwhile, Panki Inspector Manoj Singh stated that he received information from UP 112 regarding the assault on the municipal employees.
"We have taken note of the incident, and appropriate action will be initiated following a thorough investigation," Inspector Singh assured, emphasizing the seriousness with which authorities are treating the matter.
This attack underscores the challenges faced by municipal workers in performing their duties, particularly in sensitive operations like animal control. The viral video has sparked discussions on public safety and the need for cooperation between residents and civic authorities.
