Kanpur traffic authorities launched a targeted enforcement operation on Sagar Highway, also known as NH-34. The drive specifically focused on auto-rickshaws carrying more passengers than legally allowed. Officers also tackled vehicles parked illegally in designated no-parking zones.
Fog and Cold Wave Prompt Action
Officials explained the timing of this drive. They cited significantly reduced visibility due to dense fog. The ongoing cold wave conditions in the region further necessitated stricter traffic control. The primary goal was to enhance road safety during these hazardous weather periods.
Widespread Enforcement Across Key Locations
The crackdown was not limited to one spot. Police teams covered multiple critical points along the highway. These included Aundha, Oriyara, Ramaipur, Vidhnu, Sambhua, and Patara. Enforcement action was successfully taken against a total of 60 vehicles during the operation.
Authorities issued a stern warning to drivers of heavy vehicles. They were explicitly cautioned against parking their trucks and lorries directly on the highway or along its shoulders. This practice poses a severe risk, especially in low-visibility fog.
Senior Officers Lead the Drive
Traffic Inspector Rajesh Kumar Mishra, from the Eastern Zone (First), took direct charge. He personally supervised the removal of unauthorized vehicles parked at the busy Ramadevi intersection. Under his command, officials issued challans to 30 vehicles for various traffic violations.
Similarly, Traffic Inspector Harikesh Arya of the Western Zone led actions on Bhauti Highway. His team identified and removed several heavy vehicles parked illegally. Legal proceedings were formally initiated against all identified violators in this area.
Public Awareness Seminar Held Concurrently
Alongside the enforcement, the department emphasized public education. Traffic Sub-Inspector Satyendra Pal Singh addressed a gathering at the Vikas Khand Auditorium in Sarsaul. The event was organized as a traffic awareness seminar.
TSI Singh provided the audience with detailed explanations of crucial traffic rules. He particularly highlighted the dangers and legal consequences of overspeeding. The seminar aimed to foster a culture of voluntary compliance among Kanpur's drivers and commuters.
This combined approach of strict enforcement and public outreach marks a concerted effort by Kanpur police to improve road discipline. The focus remains on preventing accidents during the challenging winter and fog season.
