Kanpur Woman Files Police Complaint Against Husband and In-Laws for Dowry Harassment and Sexual Abuse

A shocking case of alleged domestic violence and sexual abuse has emerged from Kanpur, where a woman from the Panki area has filed a formal police complaint against her husband and seven members of her in-law's family. The woman, a resident of Ratanpur, has accused her spouse of forcing her to consume alcohol, showing her obscene videos, and coercing her into performing unnatural acts. Additionally, she has leveled serious allegations against her father-in-law, claiming he barged into her room, attempted to molest her, and tore her clothes during the incident.

Details of the Allegations and Marriage Background

The woman provided a detailed account of her ordeal to the authorities. She stated that she completed a hotel management course and met her husband while working at a hotel in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Their relationship blossomed into a love affair, culminating in marriage on April 24, 2024. The wedding, including gifts and dowry, reportedly cost approximately Rs 12 lakh.

However, the situation deteriorated rapidly after the marriage. The woman alleged that her in-laws began taunting her for bringing an insufficient dowry and demanded an additional Rs 10 lakh. When she refused to comply with their demands, she claims she was physically assaulted and forcibly thrown out of the marital home.

Escalation to Sexual Abuse and Police Intervention

The accusations extend beyond dowry harassment into disturbing realms of sexual misconduct. The complainant alleged that her husband frequently forced her to drink alcohol with him, showed her obscene videos on his mobile phone, and pressured her into unnatural sexual relations. She reported that resistance to these demands often resulted in physical beatings.

The most severe allegation involves her father-in-law. The woman recounted a specific night when he allegedly entered her room without consent and attempted to rape her. During her struggle to resist, she claims he tore her clothes. She stated that other family members only intervened when she raised an alarm.

Acting on the directives of the Police Commissioner, the Panki police have registered a formal case against the woman's husband and seven other in-laws. Inspector Manoj Bhadauriya of Panki police confirmed, "A case has been registered and investigation is underway." The authorities have initiated a thorough probe into all the allegations, which include charges of dowry harassment, assault, and sexual abuse.

This case highlights the severe and multifaceted nature of domestic abuse, combining financial extortion, physical violence, and sexual exploitation. The police investigation will now determine the veracity of these serious claims and pursue appropriate legal action against the accused individuals.
