KARD Condemns Doctor Assault at BRIMS, Demands Security

The Karnataka Association of Resident Doctors (KARD) has strongly condemned the assault of a doctor at Bidar's BRIMS and urged the state government to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of doctors and healthcare staff. In a statement, KARD demanded adequate security measures at BRIMS, particularly in the casualty and emergency wards, and called for a fair and prompt investigation into the incident.

Demands for Legal Action

KARD office bearers have urged authorities to initiate strict legal action against all accused under the Karnataka Medicare Service Persons and Medical Service Institution (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act and other applicable laws. They also demanded strict implementation of this Act across all government medical colleges and teaching hospitals in the state. "The government should ensure that resident doctors and interns can work in a safe environment free from fear of violence or intimidation," they added.

District Administration's Response

Speaking to the media, Bidar Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Sharma stated that the accused in the case have already been arrested. She acknowledged the shortage of doctors relative to the population and the pressure they work under. "Doctors work under pressure. The public should also understand this. Dr. Tukaram was attacked by a drunken person at night. Therefore, police patrolling near hospitals at night should be increased, and steps will be taken to appoint more security personnel," she said.
