The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday issued a conditional interim order allowing two functionaries of event management firm M/s DNA Entertainment Networks, who are arraigned as accused in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede case from last year, to travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from June 1 to June 10.
Court Order Details
Justice SR Krishna Kumar passed this order after reviewing the respective affidavits and itinerary submitted by Sunil Matthew and Kiran Kumar S. On April 30, the judge had directed the release of their passports, but they were not permitted to travel at that time. The accused claimed they needed to travel to Rio de Janeiro to attend international travel management events.
Background of the Case
Eleven people lost their lives and nearly 100 were injured in the stampede that occurred outside the stadium on the afternoon of June 4, 2025, a day after Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL triumph.
Apart from the officials of DNA Entertainment Ltd, Royal Challenger Sports Private Ltd, and former office-bearers of the Karnataka State Cricket Association have challenged the FIR and the consequential proceedings initiated against them. These matters are currently pending before the court.
