Prayagraj: Kaushambi police on Wednesday arrested two men in connection with the killing of former gram pradhan Manoj Kumar, 45, who was shot dead by three unknown bike-borne assailants near his house in village Alamchandra on May 4.
Police also recovered a country-made pistol of 0.315 bore and a bike used during the crime from the accused, identified as Sulkhan Singh and Neeraj, both residents of Patti Narwar village.
The incident was a fallout of a monetary dispute. Police are also looking for a third assailant identified as Sooraj, a resident of Alamchandra village. According to officials, it was Sooraj who hatched the conspiracy to kill Manoj over a monetary dispute. Both arrested accused are close relatives.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Kaushambi, Brijesh Kumar Singh, stated that the arrests were made based on intelligence inputs and technical surveillance. The bike used in the crime has been seized, and further investigation is underway to apprehend the absconding accused. The police have also recorded statements of witnesses and family members of the deceased to strengthen the case.
Manoj Kumar, a former village head, was shot dead in broad daylight, sending shockwaves through the local community. The police have assured strict action against all those involved in the crime.
