In a significant breakthrough, the Ernakulam rural police have apprehended two individuals in connection with an attempted murder case that took place in Aluva. The arrested have been identified as Shyamal Roy, 37, a native of West Bengal, and his accomplice Sabir Hussain, 34. Roy is a known history-sheeter with multiple theft cases registered against him across the state.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred on Tuesday night near a bar in Aluva, where the duo allegedly attempted to stab and kill two persons. The victims, identified as Abbas from Idukki and Shaktivel from Tamil Nadu, sustained injuries during the attack. According to police reports, the accused attacked the victims with a knife after questioning their involvement in a dispute with another individual.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Following the incident, rural district police chief K S Sudarshan constituted a special investigation team to track down the fleeing suspects. Sabir Hussain was apprehended within the Aluva area, while Shyamal Roy was arrested near Perumbavoor. Police revealed that Roy has been implicated in over 20 theft cases across Kerala since 2014 and has served multiple jail sentences. Known for his transient lifestyle, he rarely stayed in one place for long. During the arrest, law enforcement officials recovered weapons and tools commonly used for housebreaking from his possession.
The arrests were carried out under the leadership of Aluva DSP N Babukuttan, along with Aluva East inspector Gopakumar, Sub-Inspectors Josy M Johnson and V Anoop, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Varghese and Manaf, and Civil Police Officers Mahinsha Abubakar, Muhammad Ameer, Benny Isaac, Afsal, and Robin. The accused were produced before a court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The Station House Officer confirmed that further investigation will be conducted with the accused in custody.
Separate Drug Seizure at Railway Station
In an unrelated incident, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Ernakulam South railway station seized a substantial quantity of ganja during a midnight inspection on Saturday. According to RPF sources, the drugs were discovered after a thorough search of abandoned items. During the inspection, four pairs of shoes were found discarded under the overpass at the northern end of Platform 6. Upon detailed examination, officials uncovered approximately 3 kilograms of ganja cleverly concealed inside socks within the shoes. Additionally, a flask filled with ganja was also recovered from the same location.
The Ernakulam railway police have registered a case and initiated a more detailed investigation into the matter. The inspection was conducted under the supervision of Ernakulam South RPF inspector Benoy Antony, along with the special investigation team led by Railway DSP George Joseph.
