The woman, who lives alone with her husband and children working abroad, was in her courtyard when the incident unfolded. According to police reports, the accused identified as Anas (37) of Nedumangad trespassed into her property by jumping over the compound wall.
Police stated that Anas allegedly dragged the woman into the house and attempted to sexually assault her. During the attack, he also tried to snatch her money and jewellery. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the accused, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, became drowsy during the struggle.

Seizing the opportunity presented by her assailant's impaired state, the elderly woman managed to push him into a room and lock it from the outside. She then rushed out to alert neighbours and contact the police.
The timing proved fortuitous as the area was crowded due to the ongoing festival at Sarkara Devi Temple. This helped quickly mobilize locals once she raised the alarm, ensuring a rapid response to the situation.

Police investigations revealed that Anas is a history-sheeter involved in multiple criminal cases. He was already an accused in an earlier case involving misbehavior with a Russian woman and allegedly exposing himself near Varkala cliff.
