Khanna Police Apprehend Four Additional Suspects in International Extortion Syndicate
In a significant development, the Khanna police have successfully arrested four more individuals connected to an organized extortion gang with substantial links to Australia. This criminal network is responsible for issuing death threats and orchestrating a brazen daylight shooting targeting a local trader in the Payal area on April 14.
Escalation from Threats to Violence
The syndicate had reportedly demanded a staggering ₹1 crore from a local commission agent. When the payment was not forthcoming, the situation escalated dramatically, culminating in the gang opening fire on the trader in a shocking act of intimidation. This arrest follows the earlier detention of Saudagar Singh, who is the father of Shaganpreet Singh, a former manager for the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.
Investigation Breakthrough Through Surveillance
The investigation, spearheaded by Khanna Superintendent of Police (SP) Darpan Ahluwalia, employed a combination of advanced technical surveillance and traditional human intelligence to track the suspects. A critical breakthrough occurred during a routine police patrol near Sangam Palace. Officers observed Omesh Kumar, also known by the alias Chhaga, behaving in a highly suspicious manner.
In a desperate bid to escape, Omesh attempted to flee by climbing onto the roof of an abandoned building. However, his escape plan failed when he slipped and fell, leading to his immediate apprehension by the pursuing officers. During subsequent interrogation, Omesh confessed to his direct involvement in the shooting and provided crucial information that led to the identification of his accomplices.
Uncovering a Sophisticated International Network
Police investigations have now revealed a highly sophisticated international criminal network. It has been established that key figures, including Shaganpreet Singh and another associate named Jagpreet Singh, are currently residing in Australia. From there, they are allegedly directing and coordinating the gang's criminal activities remotely.
Further complicating the case, family members of these overseas handlers based in Punjab are accused of actively supporting the operations. Their alleged roles include providing critical reconnaissance data and detailed target information to the gang members in India. The network also maintained operational connections with the notorious gangster Doni Bal, indicating a wider web of criminal associations.
Detailed Planning and Execution
Prior to the April 14 attack, the gang held a detailed planning meeting at a residence located in Sahnewal. During this meeting, they received final instructions directly from Shaganpreet Singh via a phone call. To ensure the crime was executed smoothly, the gang conducted a thorough reconnaissance, or "recce," of the grain market using a private vehicle.
In addition to Omesh Kumar, the police have detained Gurvinder Singh and Gaurav Gola for their active roles in facilitating and supporting the shooting incident. Their arrests are seen as vital steps in dismantling the local operational cell.
Systematic Targeting of Business Community
Authorities believe this gang has been systematically targeting the local business community. Several other traders and commission agents operating in the Khanna and Doraha areas have recently reported receiving similar extortion demands from the same criminal group. This pattern suggests a coordinated campaign of intimidation aimed at extracting money from businessmen.
Public Appeal and Continued Investigation
Khanna SP Darpan Ahluwalia has issued a strong appeal to the public, urging individuals to report any threatening calls or extortion attempts to the police immediately. The police force is continuing its intensive raids with the objective of dismantling any remaining cells of this dangerous syndicate. Investigators are also delving deeper into the financial trail of the gang to uncover the full extent of their operations and funding sources.
