Background of the Accused and Drug Trade Involvement
SSP Darpan Ahluwalia provided insights into the background of the accused, noting that Gurmeet Singh worked as a driver with a ride-hailing service in Chandigarh. She explained that he was addicted to drugs, and due to mounting financial pressures, he had ventured into working as a courier in the illicit drug trade.
His handler had allegedly promised him a commission of Rs 30,000 per month for transporting drug consignments, which likely motivated his involvement in this dangerous activity. The police are now intensifying their efforts to identify this handler and trace the extensive network associated with the seized heroin consignment.
