Khanna Police District Implements Weekly Off-Day System to Alleviate Work Stress

In a significant welfare initiative aimed at reducing work stress among police personnel, the Khanna police district in Punjab has officially introduced a weekly off-day system. This new measure, which took effect on Thursday, is designed to provide much-needed relief to officers who frequently endure long and irregular working hours.

Order Issued by Senior Superintendent of Police

The initiative was rolled out following a formal order issued by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia. According to police officials, this development represents a major step forward in addressing the mental and physical well-being of the force, which often operates under demanding conditions.

Compliance with DGP Directions

The SSP's order aligns with directives issued by the Director General of Police, Punjab, on August 8, 2003, which emphasized the provision of a weekly day off to help reduce workload and enhance the mental health of police staff. This long-standing guideline is now being actively implemented in the Khanna district to ensure personnel receive regular breaks.

Implementation and Oversight

Police station heads have been instructed to guarantee that all personnel under their command are granted one day off each week. To oversee the system's execution in other police units, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-rank officers will monitor compliance and address any operational challenges.

Clarifications on the Off-Day Policy

The order specifies that the weekly off will not be considered a formal holiday or leave. Personnel availing the off must remain stationed at their place of posting and can be recalled to duty in emergency situations. This ensures that public safety and operational needs are not compromised while providing rest opportunities.

Roster Preparation and Eligibility

With eight police stations in the Khanna police district, rosters for weekly offs have already been prepared. Officials confirmed that personnel will be eligible for up to four off days per month, subject to operational requirements and staffing levels.

Ensuring Adequate Manpower

SSP Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia has directed station house officers (SHOs) to maintain adequate manpower at all times, balancing the new off-day system with the district's policing duties. This careful planning aims to prevent any disruptions in service while promoting a healthier work environment for police staff.
