Khunti Bandh Withdrawn After Administration Talks, Markets Reopen

The Kendriya Ramnavmi Mahasamiti (KRM) on Tuesday officially withdrew its call for the Khunti bandh, leading to the reopening of markets and shops across the district after approximately one and a half days of closure. This decision followed a crucial meeting between KRM representatives and the local administration, where key demands were discussed regarding recent legal actions.

KRM President Demands Withdrawal of FIRs Against Innocent Persons

During the meeting, KRM president Anup Kumar Sahu presented a formal demand to the administration, urging the withdrawal of names of innocent individuals from the FIRs lodged in connection with the stone-pelting incident that occurred in Murhu. The administration had previously filed around a dozen FIRs targeting 30 to 35 known persons and approximately 250 unknown individuals related to the clash between two groups on Saturday. Police authorities confirmed that several persons have been arrested in connection with these cases.

Administration Assures Legal and Impartial Action

Chairing the meeting that included administrative officials and members from different communities, Khunti deputy commissioner R Ronita provided assurances that legal and impartial action would be taken in all cases under investigation. The administration emphasized its commitment to following proper legal procedures while ensuring fairness in the investigative process.

SP Reveals Trade Rivalry as Root Cause of Clash

Khunti superintendent of police (SP) Manish Toppo provided crucial insight into the incident, stating, "The clash in Murhu was fundamentally the result of trade rivalry between two groups who unfortunately used the names of their communities to assault each other." He further clarified that "Police have lodged the FIRs strictly on the basis of formal complaints received. However, any subsequent action will be taken based solely on concrete evidence gathered during the investigation."

Normalcy Returns as Shops Reopen

Following the withdrawal of the bandh call, commercial activity has resumed across Khunti district with shops and markets gradually reopening. The administration has announced that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) will remain in force in Murhu in the coming days as a precautionary measure to maintain public order and prevent any further incidents.

The resolution of this situation through dialogue between community representatives and administrative authorities marks a significant step toward restoring normalcy in the region while ensuring proper legal procedures are followed in addressing the underlying issues that led to the initial conflict.
