Kidney Racket: Victim Video Found on Accused's Phone

Kanpur Police Uncover Critical Evidence in Multi-Lakh Kidney Racket Case

In a significant development in a disturbing organ trafficking scandal, the Kanpur police have disclosed that a video recording of Punjab victim Manjinder was recovered from the mobile device of accused Shivam Agrawal. This evidence emerges in a case where Manjinder was allegedly defrauded of Rs 43 lakh in a sophisticated kidney transplant racket.

Victim's Harrowing Account of Deception and Financial Ruin

Manjinder, a resident of Tarn Taran in Amritsar, has provided a detailed account of his ordeal. He alleges that operators of Ahuja Hospital, specifically Dr. Surjit Ahuja and Dr. Preeti Ahuja, along with four other individuals, extracted Rs 43 lakh from him under the false pretense of arranging a kidney transplant. Desperate for medical treatment, Manjinder raised this enormous sum by taking out multiple loans.

According to the victim, his kidney was damaged, necessitating years of dialysis treatment. It was during one such dialysis session in Mohali that he encountered a young man named Navneet Singh. Navneet introduced Jaspreet, Vikrant, and Hasan as his associates, promising they could facilitate the much-needed kidney transplant.

Financial Exploitation and Broken Promises

The accused individuals allegedly collected the Rs 43 lakh in multiple installments, with Manjinder borrowing extensively from acquaintances to meet their demands. Despite the substantial payment, several months passed without any transplant procedure being performed. The perpetrators repeatedly delayed and avoided fulfilling their promise, leaving the victim in a state of medical and financial crisis.

"I lost everything," Manjinder stated, describing how those from whom he borrowed money began aggressively demanding repayment, compounding his distress.

Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings

DCP (West) SM Qasim Abidi has confirmed the recovery of the video evidence and outlined the next steps in the investigation. "The police will file an application in court to take ambulance operator Shivam Agrawal on remand," Abidi stated. "Answers to many questions will be obtained only after taking him on remand. This will help gather information about the person from Punjab whose video was found on his mobile phone."

The interrogation will also focus on the operations at Ahuja Hospital and Medilife, seeking details about when transplants were allegedly conducted and identifying whose procedures were performed. This broader inquiry aims to uncover the full extent of the racket and potentially identify other victims.

Key Aspects of the Case Under Scrutiny
  • The video evidence linking the accused directly to the victim
  • The alleged involvement of medical professionals at Ahuja Hospital
  • The network of individuals who facilitated the fraudulent scheme
  • The financial transactions and exploitation of vulnerable patients
  • The operational timeline and scope of the kidney transplant activities

This case highlights serious concerns about illegal organ trafficking and the exploitation of individuals in desperate medical situations. The Kanpur police's investigation continues as they work to bring all responsible parties to justice and prevent similar crimes in the future.
