A passenger travelling on a CSMT-Khopoli local train was injured in a knife attack after a thief attempted to snatch his mobile phone between Vithalwadi and Ulhasnagar railway stations on Friday.
Incident Details
According to officials, Joginder Singh Labana, a history-sheeter from the Ulhasnagar area, attempted to snatch Nitesh Kumar Shah's phone inside the moving train. When Shah resisted, Labana allegedly attacked him with a knife, causing minor injuries, and then fled the scene.
Victim and Aftermath
Shah, who runs a toy-selling business, was later treated for his injuries. A video of the incident later went viral on social media, prompting swift action from authorities.
Investigation and Arrest
Taking serious note of the incident, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Kalyan launched an investigation. Through CCTV footage, they identified the accused. Labana was arrested soon after and produced before a Kalyan court, which remanded him to police custody.
