Knife-Wielding Duo Strikes Twice Near Chennai's Major Hospital
In a disturbing series of events on Tuesday night, two men waiting for buses near the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai fell victim to violent robberies at knifepoint. The incidents, occurring within a short distance of each other, have raised concerns about public safety in the area.
First Attack at GH Bus Stop
The first victim has been identified as R Gunasekaran, a 42-year-old resident of Arani in Tiruvannamalai district who works for the Public Works Department. According to police reports, Gunasekaran was waiting at the GH bus stop when two unidentified men approached him and demanded 2,000 rupees.
When Gunasekaran refused to comply with their demand, the assailants escalated the confrontation dramatically. They pulled out knives and slashed him on the head before fleeing the scene with his cash. The injured man is currently receiving medical treatment at the Government General Hospital, where his condition is being monitored.
Second Incident on Wall Tax Road
In a separate but potentially related incident occurring approximately 200 meters away on Wall Tax Road, another man became the target of a similar attack. Mohammed Chand was confronted by two men who initiated a quarrel with him.
The attackers questioned Chand about whether he was in possession of ganja (marijuana) before launching their assault. Without provocation, they attacked him with a knife, causing injuries to his hand and shoulder before escaping from the location.
Police Investigation Underway
Flower Bazaar police have registered cases for both incidents and are actively investigating whether the same perpetrators committed both crimes. The proximity of the attacks in both time and location has led investigators to consider the possibility of a coordinated criminal operation targeting vulnerable individuals in the area.
Authorities are examining surveillance footage from the vicinity and conducting interviews with witnesses who might have observed the incidents or the suspects fleeing the scenes. The police have urged anyone with information about the attacks to come forward and assist with the investigation.
