Kochi: City police on Tuesday underlined strict time regulations for DJ events in bars, directing that all such programmes must conclude by 11pm, with establishments required to shut operations by midnight.
The instruction was conveyed through a notice issued by the Ernakulam central assistant commissioner's office. The directive applies to all bars functioning within the central police subdivision and is aimed at ensuring adherence to existing rules in the interest of maintaining public order.
Assistant commissioner of police C Premananda Krishnan said the communication is not a fresh order, but a reminder issued to bar owners and operators during a meeting held earlier in the day. Authorities, he noted, noticed instances where DJ events continued beyond the stipulated deadline.
Police also reiterated that bars attached to five-star hotels may operate until 3am, provided they comply with the conditions laid down for such exemptions. According to the police, the step is purely precautionary and not in response to any recent law-and-order issue.
