Kochi Woman Alleges Sexual Assault by Businessman After Road Accident
A 25-year-old woman from Kochi has come forward with a harrowing account of alleged sexual assault by a businessman while she was being taken to the hospital after a road accident. The incident occurred during her return from a pilgrimage, and she has accused the police of failing to arrest the accused even more than a week after her complaint was registered.
Details of the Alleged Assault
According to the survivor, the ordeal began on April 3 when the autorickshaw she was traveling in, along with two others, overturned at KPAC Junction in Kayamkulam after hitting a divider. She sustained minor injuries in the accident. Several people gathered at the scene to offer assistance, including a man who later allegedly assaulted her.
The accused has been identified by the survivor as Sinil Sabad, a trader from Kayamkulam. He reportedly arrived at the accident site on his motorcycle and, while pretending to be a rescuer, sexually assaulted the woman. "After hearing the sound of the accident, a few individuals came to help. I was able to walk slowly, but he insisted on taking me and touched me inappropriately," she stated.
Assault Continues During Hospital Journey
The woman alleges that the assault did not stop at the accident site. It continued during the journey to the hospital, with the accused threatening her to prevent her from disclosing the incident. Upon examination at the hospital, doctors noticed injuries, prompting her to reveal the alleged abuse. Hospital authorities immediately informed the police.
However, the woman claims that the accused fled before the police could arrive. A complaint was registered on April 4, and the man was officially booked, but as of now, police have not recorded his arrest. The delay in action has raised serious concerns about the handling of the case.
Allegations of Influence and Threats
The survivor has alleged attempts to influence her into dropping the case. She said, "He offered up to Rs 25 lakh through my friend to settle the matter. I still have recordings of his associates threatening me and offering money." She expressed frustration over the police's inaction, noting, "Usually, in such cases, the accused are arrested within a few days. It has been more than a week, and no action has been taken. When I contact police, they say the case is being examined."
She further suspects that the accused's financial and political influence may be contributing to the delay. Attempts to reach officers at the Kayamkulam police station, including the station house officer, for a response have been unsuccessful so far.
