Kodagu Police Dismantle Narcotics Network in Virajpet Town
In a significant crackdown on illegal drug activities, the Kodagu district police have successfully busted a major racket involved in the sale and supply of narcotics in Virajpet town. Acting on precise intelligence regarding the distribution of marijuana near Heggala Junction in RG Village, authorities conducted a coordinated raid on Tuesday, leading to the apprehension of four suspects.
Coordinated Raid Leads to Multiple Arrests
The operation was executed based on specific information about drug sales in the area. Police officials, including Virajpet DYSP Mahesh Kumar, CPI Anoop Madappa, and Virajpet Town PSI, spearheaded the raid. As a result, four individuals were taken into custody on charges related to the sale and supply of narcotics.
The arrested persons have been identified as:
- Harshad Khan, aged 25, from Shanti Nagar in Mysuru
- Muzamil Ahmed, aged 46, from Aziz Sait Nagar
- Apsal Pasha, aged 28, also from Aziz Sait Nagar
- Saqub, aged 32, from Kalyangiri in Mysuru
Substantial Seizures and Legal Proceedings
During the raid, law enforcement officers confiscated a significant quantity of narcotics and other evidence. A total of 576 grams of ganja was seized, along with one car used in the illicit activities. Superintendent of Police Bindu Mani confirmed the seizures in an official release, stating that legal action has been initiated against the accused.
A formal case has been registered under Section 20(B) of the Indian Penal Code at the Virajpet town police station. The accused individuals have been produced before the court for further judicial proceedings. This bust highlights the ongoing efforts by Kodagu police to combat drug-related crimes in the region.
The successful operation underscores the commitment of local authorities to maintaining law and order, particularly in curbing the spread of narcotics in communities. Residents have expressed relief at the police action, hoping it will deter similar illegal activities in the future.
