Kolhapur School Headmaster Held for Alleged Rape of Teenage Former Student
A shocking case has emerged from Kolhapur district in Maharashtra. Police arrested a 55-year-old headmaster of a school located in Kagal tehsil. Authorities charged him with the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl on two separate occasions.
Details of the Alleged Assaults
The victim was a former student of the headmaster's school. She passed her Class X examinations in March 2025. The girl lives with her single mother in Kolhapur.
According to the preliminary police investigation, the headmaster first visited the girl's house in August 2025. He reportedly went there under the pretext of inquiring about her mother's health. During that visit, he allegedly made inappropriate advances. The girl stated that one day, when her mother was away at work, the headmaster forced himself on her inside her own residence.
The second alleged incident occurred in October of the same year. The accused headmaster invited the teenager to a flat owned by his son. Police say he allegedly raped her again at that location.
Threats and the Path to Justice
The young survivor reported that the headmaster threatened her. He allegedly warned that he would harm both her and her mother if she ever disclosed the assaults to anyone.
Despite these threats, the girl eventually found the courage to confide in her mother. The distressed mother then took immediate action. She approached Superintendent of Police Yogeshkumar Gupta to file a formal complaint.
SP Gupta directed his officers to record the girl's statement meticulously and to register the crime without delay. Officials recorded her statement in the presence of the superintendent of police from the Women's Assistance Cell. This step ensured proper procedure and support for the survivor.
Legal Action and Arrest
Based on the recorded statement, police formally registered the crime at the Juna Rajwada police station on January 12. Law enforcement arrested the accused headmaster the very next day, on January 13.
Authorities produced him before a local court. The court granted police custody of the accused until January 15 for further questioning.
Police have invoked several stringent sections of the law against the headmaster. These include sections 64(1), 64(2), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Officers also applied critical sections from the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. Specifically, they invoked sections 4, 6, and 12 of this strict law designed to protect minors.
Furthermore, authorities applied the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Police noted that the headmaster was fully aware of the girl's social background.
Investigation Leadership
Superintendent of Police Yogeshkumar Gupta has appointed a senior officer to lead the probe. City Deputy Superintendent of Police Priya Patil will now head the investigation into this serious case. Her appointment underscores the priority given to ensuring a thorough and fair inquiry.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community in Kolhapur. It raises serious questions about safety and the abuse of authority within educational institutions.
