Kolkata Advocate Arrested in Salt Lake Gang Rape Case
A 29-year-old man, who is a practicing advocate by profession, was arrested on Friday night in connection with the alleged gang rape of a massage therapist in the Salt Lake area of Kolkata. The accused has vehemently denied all charges leveled against him.
Court Proceedings and Police Custody
On Saturday, the arrested advocate was produced before the Bidhannagar Court, which subsequently remanded him into police custody. This legal step allows detectives to conduct a thorough interrogation to gather more evidence and details about the crime.
Details of the Arrest and Crime
The accused was apprehended from the Chinar Park locality. The arrest followed a significant delay in reporting the incident, which spanned approximately one month. Authorities have attributed this delay to the immense trauma experienced by the victim, which prevented her from coming forward immediately.
The alleged crime took place on February 13 in the Khalpar area of Salt Lake. According to police reports, the woman was lured to the location under the false pretext of a massage assignment. Upon her arrival, she was allegedly ambushed by the advocate and an associate. Subsequently, a third man joined them, and all three are accused of participating in the sexual assault.
Ongoing Investigation and Manhunt
Law enforcement officials have launched an intensive manhunt to locate and apprehend the two other accomplices who remain at large. The woman's confidential statement has been formally recorded before a magistrate, providing a legal foundation for the case.
Detectives are now focused on interrogating the arrested advocate to establish the identity and current whereabouts of the other two suspects involved in this heinous crime. The investigation aims to bring all perpetrators to justice and ensure a comprehensive legal process.
