Kolkata Couple Assaulted During New Year Video Shoot

A distressing incident marred New Year celebrations in Kolkata's Baguiati area, where a woman social media content creator and her husband were allegedly molested and assaulted by a group of unidentified individuals. The Baguiati Police Station has registered a case and launched an investigation based on the victim's complaint.

Alleged Molestation During Video Shoot

The incident occurred in the early hours of New Year's Day, around 1:50 am at Jangra Battala More. According to the police, the woman was with her husband and one of his friends, recording a special New Year's video. Their celebration turned traumatic when a vehicle approached the spot.

One of the occupants peered out from the car and then allegedly leaned out of the window, touching the woman inappropriately. When her husband immediately protested against this act of molestation, the situation quickly escalated. Three people from the car, including a woman, stepped out and allegedly began threatening the couple.

Escalation to Physical Assault

The confrontation turned violent. The accused allegedly pushed the woman content creator. When her husband tried to intervene, the group assaulted both of them, leaving them with injuries. In the chaos, the victim's mobile phone was also damaged. The assailants then fled the scene in their vehicle.

Based on the detailed complaint lodged by the victim on Thursday, the Baguiati Police have initiated a formal case. The car used by the accused bore the registration number WB25K-3529, as per the complaint. However, the identities of the accused remain unknown at this time.

Police Investigation Underway

Law enforcement officials are actively pursuing multiple leads. CCTV footage from the vicinity has been gathered for analysis. Furthermore, the police are taking assistance from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to trace the ownership details of the vehicle with the mentioned registration number.

The case has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 126(2), 115(2), 117(2), 74, 324(4), 351(2), and 3(5), which pertain to assault, criminal intimidation, and related offences. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend the culprits involved in this New Year's Eve attack.
