Kolkata Driver Arrested After Alleged Assault on Police Constable During Flyover Incident
In a dramatic incident on Saturday evening in Kolkata, a man identified as Abraham Junaid was arrested after allegedly hitting a police constable while attempting to flee the scene of an accident on the Maa Flyover. The event unfolded when Junaid, driving a four-wheeler, reportedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with the flyover's guard rail.
Sequence of Events Leading to Arrest
According to police reports, the accused was traveling from Chingrihata towards Science City when the initial accident occurred. After hitting the guard rail, on-duty personnel attempted to intercept the vehicle. Instead of stopping, Junaid allegedly accelerated onto the flyover in an effort to escape.
The situation escalated when police managed to intercept the vehicle again. Junaid briefly halted but then allegedly pushed a constable and attempted to drive away, knocking the officer down in the process. The constable sustained a fractured arm from the incident and has been hospitalized for treatment.
Apprehension and Aftermath
Following the altercation, law enforcement officers pursued the vehicle and eventually apprehended Junaid near the Park Circus crossing. The arrest marks a significant development in what began as a routine traffic incident but quickly turned into an assault case against a police officer.
The injured constable's condition remains under medical supervision, with authorities confirming the fracture injury. Police have registered appropriate charges against the accused, who now faces legal consequences for his alleged actions during the Saturday evening incident.
This case highlights the risks faced by law enforcement personnel during routine traffic interventions and underscores the importance of compliance with police instructions. The Maa Flyover, a crucial transportation artery in Kolkata, witnessed temporary disruption during the incident before normal traffic flow was restored following the arrest.
