A man accused of sexually assaulting and murdering his live-in partner's three-year-old daughter near Maidan on March 21 has been arrested from Babughat on Friday morning. He had initially fled to Ayodhya to evade arrest.
Incident Details
Police said the child's mother was in a relationship with the man from Rabindranagar. Investigators alleged that both were addicted to drugs. While under the influence, an argument reportedly broke out involving the child. Police alleged that during this fight, the man violently threw the girl to the ground, causing severe injuries.
Autopsy and Legal Action
An autopsy later indicated sexual assault and fatal injuries, after which police registered a case of murder and invoked provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
