Kolkata Businessman Murder Investigation: Girlfriend and Cousin Arrested, Trigger Person Remains Unknown
In a significant development in the Kolkata businessman murder case, the alleged girlfriend of the victim and her cousin have been formally arrested by authorities. The arrests come more than 48 hours after the body of businessman Arup Mondal was discovered with a fatal bullet injury at his residence in Narendrapur on Sunday.
Arrests Made but Critical Questions Remain Unanswered
Despite the arrests of Priyanka Das, identified as Mondal's alleged girlfriend, and her cousin on Tuesday, investigators have yet to determine a crucial element of the case: who actually pulled the trigger. The two arrested individuals were presented before the Baruipur court, where they were remanded to 10-day police custody for further interrogation.
Police officials have emphasized that they are not ruling out any possibilities in their investigation, including the potential involvement of a third person who might have been present during the incident. This uncertainty has added complexity to what initially appeared to be a straightforward case.
Conflicting Accounts and Financial Disputes Surface
During initial questioning, Priyanka Das has categorically denied any involvement in Mondal's death. She provided investigators with an alternative narrative, claiming that she and her cousin went to Mondal's flat only after hearing him scream during a phone conversation.
Das revealed significant financial transactions between herself and the deceased businessman, stating that she had given Mondal Rs 42 lakh for his business ventures. This substantial sum reportedly came from savings accumulated by her husband, who previously served in the Indian Army.
According to Das's statement, disputes over repayment of this money frequently led to heated arguments between her and Mondal, suggesting possible motives that investigators are now examining closely.
Medical Evidence and Family Cooperation
The preliminary post-mortem report has confirmed what investigators suspected from the beginning: Arup Mondal's death was caused by a gunshot injury. This official medical finding provides crucial forensic evidence as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, the victim's brother, Swarup Mondal, has stated that the family is fully cooperating with police authorities. This cooperation from the victim's relatives may prove valuable as investigators piece together the events leading to the businessman's untimely death.
As the case enters its third day since the murder was discovered, Kolkata police continue their meticulous investigation, combining forensic evidence with witness statements to unravel the complete truth behind this tragic incident.
