Kozhikode Double Death: Cousin Allegedly Murders Teen Girl, Found Dead in Apparent Suicide
In a shocking incident in Chelavoor, Kozhikode, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her maternal cousin early Tuesday morning. The 20-year-old cousin was later discovered dead in the same house with packing tape wrapped around his head, in what police are treating as an apparent suicide.
Victims Identified as Nasreena and Adnan
The deceased have been identified as Nasreena, aged 16, and Adnan, aged 20, both residents of Kozhikode. According to police statements, Adnan had been staying at the Chelavoor house over the past few months. The situation escalated when Nasreena caught him stealing money from the household.
An investigating officer revealed that Adnan had been made to stay with his relatives due to his questionable behavior. After he stole money from them, he was forced to leave the house. Police believe the grudge Adnan held against Nasreena for this incident ultimately led to her tragic murder.
Autopsy Findings Reveal Disturbing Details
The autopsy report indicated that Nasreena died from smothering and strangulation. Meanwhile, Adnan's autopsy showed no defensive wounds or injuries on his face or lips, suggesting he was forcefully smothered. Police stated that prima facie, this appears to be a case of suicide.
The officer explained: "He may have wrapped the packing tape repeatedly around his head to cause self-asphyxiation." The packing tape used was nearly 4 inches wide and described as quite sticky, making the method particularly disturbing.
CCTV Footage and Timeline of Events
Police recovered crucial CCTV footage from the house showing Adnan arriving late on Monday evening. In a calculated move, he had turned the camera away to mask his entry. Investigators believe he entered the house before the backdoor was closed, possibly while the family was having dinner in the courtyard.
"As per our investigation, he must have entered the house before the backdoor was closed. The family used to have dinner in the courtyard and he must have sneaked in and hidden somewhere for quite some time," the officer detailed.
Family Discovery and Police Response
The attack is believed to have occurred after Adnan's relatives left the house. The victim's mother and grandmother were sleeping downstairs when the grandmother heard suspicious noises. She immediately alerted nearby relatives.
The family rushed upstairs and found Nasreena unconscious in one room. Suspecting someone might be hiding in another room, they locked that door from the outside and rushed the girl to the hospital.
When police arrived after being alerted, they discovered the other room door was locked from the inside. After breaking it open, they found Adnan's dead body. Police have stated that a detailed autopsy report is awaited to provide better clarity on the exact chain of events.
