Krishnagiri Police Register Case Against Youths for Road Blockage and Assault During Birthday Celebrations
In a disturbing incident highlighting public nuisance, the Veppanahalli police in Krishnagiri district have taken legal action against a group of youths for obstructing traffic and allegedly assaulting commuters during a birthday celebration. The case, registered on Wednesday, stems from events that unfolded on Tuesday evening, causing significant disruption and distress in the local community.
Birthday Festivities Turn Violent on Public Road
The controversy began when Santosh, a 27-year-old resident of Yanaikkal Thotti near Veppanahalli, decided to celebrate his birthday with friends on the busy Veppanahalli-Nachikuppam Road. Instead of opting for a private venue, the group chose to place a table directly in the middle of the roadway, where they cut a cake as part of their festivities. To amplify their celebrations, they erected banners, burst firecrackers, and engaged in drum-beating and dancing, effectively bringing traffic to a standstill.
This reckless behavior led to the blockage of government buses and numerous other vehicles, severely inconveniencing road users who were trying to navigate the area. The celebrations, concentrated in the Nachikuppam Kootrodu locality, persisted for an extended period, exacerbating the traffic chaos and drawing ire from the public.
Public Objections Met with Aggression and Violence
As the situation escalated, some concerned individuals approached the group, urging them to shift their celebrations to the roadside to allow normal traffic flow. However, their requests were met with defiance. J Vignesh, a road user, recounted, "Some people asked them to move to the roadside and celebrate. But they were not ready." The group's unwillingness to comply soon turned violent when they allegedly attacked those who objected to their actions.
Police investigations revealed that two men, identified as Easwara Rao and Abhimanyu, sustained injuries in the assault. A police officer stated, "Two men in the area, identified as Easwara Rao and Abhimanyu, were injured in the attack." The group fled the scene before law enforcement could arrive, leaving behind a trail of disruption. Upon reaching the location, police removed the banners and initiated a probe into the incident.
Legal Action and Past Criminal Records Uncovered
Based on a formal complaint filed by Rao, the Veppanahalli police registered a case against Santosh and his associates. Preliminary inquiries have shed light on the group's questionable background, indicating that Santosh and his friends have been involved in gambling activities for many years. The officer added, "Some cases are pending against them at different police stations in connection with gambling." This revelation suggests a pattern of unlawful behavior, raising concerns about their disregard for public safety and legal norms.
The incident underscores the challenges faced by authorities in curbing such public disturbances and highlights the need for stricter enforcement to prevent similar occurrences in the future. As the investigation continues, the police are working to apprehend all individuals involved and ensure justice for the victims.
