A violent altercation stemming from a prolonged road dispute has resulted in a tragic outcome in Krishnagiri district, with one person dead and another fighting for his life in intensive care. The incident, which unfolded near Hosur on Wednesday night, saw two cousins engage in a brutal sickle attack, highlighting the dangers of unresolved local conflicts.
Long-Standing Feud Over Pathway Access Turns Deadly
According to the Kelamangalam police, the deceased, identified as Munimaarappa, aged 40, and his cousin, Munikrishnan, aged 41, both residents of Konekanapalli village near Kelamangalam, had been embroiled in a bitter dispute over access to a pathway for the past five years. This longstanding feud had previously led to a similar altercation, prompting a formal complaint to be registered at the Kelamangalam police station, indicating that tensions had been simmering for some time.
Violent Confrontation Leads to Fatal Injuries
On Wednesday night, the argument between the two men reignited and quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. In a shocking turn of events, Munimaarappa reportedly seized a sickle and inflicted severe slashes on Munikrishnan's head and neck. In retaliation, Munikrishnan attacked Munimaarappa with another sickle, causing critical injuries to his head. Munimaarappa succumbed to his wounds on the spot due to excessive bleeding, as confirmed by a police officer involved in the case.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
Upon being alerted, police personnel rushed to the scene and immediately transported Munikrishnan to the government hospital in Hosur for urgent medical attention. He was later shifted to a private hospital, where his condition remains critical and under close monitoring. The authorities also recovered Munimaarappa's body and sent it to the government hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
